The 8th International Council for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (ICHPER.SD) Africa Regional Conference

Call for abstracts

The ICHPER.SD Africa Region Conference serves as a vibrant platform for fostering scholarly interactions and growth in the related fields of HPERSD. This year the Conference is hosted by Kenya in recognition to Kenyatta University’s regional leadership in Physical Education and Sports-related fields, and exemplary ICHPER.SD traditions that are in line with the institution’s vision and mission of championing global excellence in teaching, training, research, innovation, and outreach.

Researchers, academicians, students, practitioners and all who are interested in ICHPER.SD 2024 Africa Regional Conference are invited to submit abstracts for the conference in topics relevant to Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance from all over the world.

Theme and Sub-themes

The conference’s overarching theme is, “Enhancing Professional Practice and Sustainable Development in Physical Education & Sport-related Fields through Education, Research, Innovation and Outreach”

The sub-themes are:

  2. Physical activity for health promotion and sport performance
  3. Sports for sustainable development,
  4. Technology in physical activity, exercise & sport,
  5. Gamification and experiential learning,
  6. Talent management, transition and elite performance,
  7. Exercise, Sports and Mental health
  8. Biopsychosocial approaches to physical activity, exercise and sports
  9. Ethics and Integrity in Exercise and sports
  10. State agents in sports education and training
  11. Adapted Physical Education, Exercise and Sports
  12. Artificial Intelligence in physical activity, exercise, sports and recreation
Objectives

The 8th ICHPER.SD Africa Regional Conference 2024 seeks to provide a platform for researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to share experiences and best practices in physical activity, sports science and recreation. Within the three days, the event will showcase interdisciplinary approaches, practical experiences, and collaborative research outputs in different educational and physical training contexts. It will also encourage dialogue on future directions in practice and research that contribute to sustainable development among diverse global population groups.

Participants

The conference is open to participants from all over the world -both ICHPER-SD members and non-members. The non-members are encouraged to join for continuous engagement with the organizational activities going forward. Plenary keynotes, thematic oral presentations, poster presentations/exhibitions, and symposiums will facilitate engagement and knowledge sharing among delegates, invited keynote speakers, guest speakers, and postgraduate students.

Abstract submission guidelines

Abstracts should include paper/topic title, name(s) and institutional affiliation(s), summary of the entire paper in 250 to 300 words, and fit them all in one A4 size page.

Please indicate the preferred mode of presentation: Oral or Poster (LOC retains the right to recommend otherwise), or symposia.

Abstracts for symposia sessions should include subtopics and the presenters (up to 8 presentations with up to 90 minutes allocated) in the second page.

Abstracts should be clear and concise to accommodate interdisciplinary nature of audience from diverse backgrounds including those from the sporting/ athletic community

Please write “ICHPERSD-AFRICA-2024: Abstract” in the subject line and type the name of the presenter(s): Presentation title, Name/s of authors, Institutional affiliation, Oral presentation/Poster/Symposium, Areas of particular interest/subtheme (please choose from “1” to “12” subthemes), and e-mail address in the body of your e-mail.

Cancellation information

Substitutions of presenters may be made at any time but the symposium secretariat needs to be notified of a change of name in good time. If you find it necessary to cancel the registration completely, please notify the symposium secretariat in writing two months before the conference date (a full refund will be given less a 10% administration charge -after the conference dates). For registrations cancelled after July 11th 2024, or for no-shows at the conference, the full fee (100% cancellation charges) will be payable.
