Scientific Leadership
Prof. Kimiywe’s research has centered on use of local available resources to enhance food and nutrition security of individuals and communities to mitigate hunger, malnutrition and poverty in Kenya and beyond. Research team has comprised of public and private sectors, development partners, University faculty and postgraduate students. Have carried out consultacy for various international and UN agencies on development programmes and for informing policy for Kenya and the Regional. Prof. Kimiywe is a member of several professional organizations such as The Kenya Coalition for Action in Nutrition, KNDI, FARA, ANS, ISHS and IUNS among others. Appointed as an Expert Consultant – Joint FAO/Bioversity International Expert Consultation on Nutrition Indicators for Biodiversity – 2 Food Consumption Washington DC, 8 – 9 June 2009. She is a Patron and a founder of the Kenyatta University Nutrition Club, which has grown into an Interuniversity Association in Kenya. She is an awardee of the CGIAR Award to dietary diversity Kenya Team, Nominated Custodian of Dietary Diversity 22nd May 2010 and Vice Chancellor’s Award in recognition of attracting high number research grants 2006-2009.
